Autumn on the Farm: When the Valley Turns Gold

2026-03

As the mornings grow crisp and the paddocks shift from green to amber, autumn is our favourite season at Coos & Roos. The fire pit comes alive, the garden is bursting, and the light is impossibly beautiful.

The golden hour lasts all day

There's something about autumn light in the Yango Creek Valley that stops you in your tracks. The sun sits lower, the shadows stretch longer, and everything takes on this warm, honeyed glow. It's the kind of light that makes you want to sit on the verandah with a cup of tea and just watch the world turn gold.

The garden is at its best

After a long summer, the garden finally exhales. The tomatoes are at their sweetest, the herbs are lush, and the fig tree is heavy with fruit. We spend our mornings picking whatever's ripe and our afternoons turning it into something delicious — slow-roasted tomato sauce, fig jam, basil pesto.

Fire pit season begins

When the sun dips behind the ridge and the air turns cool, there's nothing better than gathering around the fire pit. We keep a stack of firewood ready and the marshmallows within reach. Some of our favourite guest memories have been made around that fire — stories swapped, stars spotted, and the odd sing-along.

What to pack for an autumn stay

  • A warm jacket for early mornings and evenings
  • Sturdy shoes for creek walks (the trails are beautiful this time of year)
  • A good book for lazy afternoons on the verandah
  • A camera — the light really is something special

Autumn at Coos & Roos is quiet, golden, and full of simple pleasures. If you've been meaning to visit, this is the season to do it.
